It is misleading to say that advances in communication have made it possible for people to be "better informed" about world events than was possible in the past. There's a limit to how much total information any person can absorb; the only result of better communications is that, whereas people used to know a great deal about the few places that concerned them directly, now they know very little about a great many places.
