Role of Education
However, if evolution is the option, Education
plays crucial role. It is the heart and soul of democracy. That is exactly the
reason why Islam enjoins upon all men and women to educate them even if they
have to travel to far flung places in search of knowledge. A Democratic Islamic
Welfare State creates conditions and provides facilities to achieve hundred
percent literacy for the nation. Curriculum is the main vehicle that spreads
right kind of education laying rational emphasis on religious, temporal, professional,
technological, scientific and general education in all educational institutions
up to the higher secondary level. Thereafter, students adopt specialized
streams such as medicine, engineering, higher religious learning etc. The
citizens of the state acquire sufficient background knowledge of religious as
well as temporal subjects. This gives uniformity to the national educational
process. The distinction between religious schools and non-religious
institutions thus becomes irrelevant. Education of religious scholars is not
considered complete unless they have also studied non-religious subjects.
Without the background of these subjects it is just not possible for them to
interpret Islam and teach the holy Quran in the modem world. This arrangement promotes
desired religious enlightenment and enables them to shed narrow-mindedness,
fanaticism and sectarianism. Quaide-Azam’s definition of an Islamic State may
be seen in this context. He said, “It depoliticizes religion without
secularizing the society. No political party establishes its student wing in colleges
and universities. Teachers hold a status higher than any other equivalent
functionary of the government and equal to the members of the judiciary. The
state, as such, can legitimately claim to be called Islamic, since it caters
for the education of each one of its citizens in pursuance of Quranic
commandments and sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).Given that the Islamic
democracy has become the political system of the country, how the target of hundred
percent education can be achieved in view of the woeful paucity of resources.
which has been cited by the ruling feudal juntas for keeping three fourth of
the population uneducated during the last many decades and intend to keep them
uneducated for the coming many decades.
