The curse of NRO

The greatest harm that came to the cause of democracy at the hands of Musharraf who had -promised to herald the dawn of true democracy, was the promulgation of National Reconciliation ordinance of 2007. It was enforced to perpetuate his personal rule. He slavishly toed American line that required the support of the upcoming Pakistan Peoples Party to fight against terror in collusion with him. The PPP could not have cooperated unless scores of cases of high corruption instituted against its. leadership, at home and abroad, were done away with. Musharraf agreed to do that hut in the bargain he compromised country’s sovereignty, morality, honour, respect, justice, rule of law and made a mockery of nation’s self esteem. There was no more depth to which he could make the country to sink farther. The provisions of the Ordinance have to be seen to believe.
