The ultimate worry
The last question that worries the common man is,
does this miserable kind of life has an end in sight. The fact that is to be
reconciled is that feudalism is too deeply entrenched in our system and it
cannot be uprooted unless a counter force emerges that has the backing of the
entire nation. Till then the government in power should make every department
of the government work to full capacity to ensure the welfare of the common
man. Punishments must be awarded without fear or favour for the wrongs done by
officials and individuals. Fear of the strong arm of the government hitting
hard to set examples should be revived in a big way. Nevertheless, the problem
will be finally settled with the emergence of a leader with vision hacked by
the combined force of three armed services. He will abolish feudalism forthwith,
manage to distribute the lands among the
tenants and also other means of production among the people. He will then hold
elections in which every voter will exercise his honest choice so that a true
democratic state can emerge. However, it should also be kept in mind that the
awaited men of vision and substance do not appear too often. They visit their
nations only once in a lifetime. But they do visit. We in Pakistan should not
lose hope.
In conclusion, good governance implies the most
efficient and full capacity working of various departments of the government
for the general welfare of the people in various fields of life. It aims at
achieving social justice, political and economic empowerment of the weaker
sectors of the society such as the woman and economically deprived classes. The
pillars of good governance are well known and widely recognized but the feudal
system in vogue in Pakistan makes use of them to its own advantage. The common
man whose interest it is supposed to serve, falls prey to criminal neglect.
Consequently what falls to the lot of the common man is suicide, murder,
kidnapping for ransom, rapes rather gang rape, dacoities, street crime, human
smuggling, drug trafficking, terrorism, sectarianism, honour killing etc.
Responsible high officials express their concern over this unfortunate state of
affairs, issue orders to control these crimes which no one takes seriously. The
crime keeps on increasing and multiplying and no one is bothered. The fact is
that unless a framework of true democracy is provided within which principles of
good governance can find practical application, all its pillars will stand
neglected until they get rusted to crumble one after the other and are reduced
to a heap of debris.
