what happened at Jamia Hafsa as mentioned above, was a human catastrophe of unlimited magnitude which had quite a number of disgusting aspects. A palatial building meant for use for a noble cause was used by the militants courted by the administration as their arsenal and as a bridgehead to be used for defensive and offensive operations against the security forces that were duty bound to dislodge them from illegal occupation of a religious seminary. In the ensuing operations they desecrated the mosque by using it as a trench. They took shelter behind the human shield of poor girl students who were made to hold dandas and shout Al-jihad. Al—jiad-height of disrespect shown to the daughters of Islam. Despite the offer of a negotiated settlement of the dispute they remained adamant and obdurate and refused to listen to reason. The first shot was fired by them that killed a soldier and forced the security forces to counteract. They got the Jamia reduced to rubble besides getting destroyed themselves. Their stubborn attitude ruined the academic careers of hundreds of girl students.

This breaking point, however, did not come in a day. The above operation was preceded by series of provocative and offensive actions taken against the civilians and the government by the administrators of the Jamia, who were Malan’s Abdul Aziz and Abdul Rashid Ghazi. They caused to kidnap the civilians including a few Chinese nationals on the alleged accusation not indulging in corrupt practices. They destroyed private property and torched government offices. They set up Shariah courts of their own and started trying the accused in absentia & dispensed punishments. This was a challenge to the writ of the government. Warning after warning went unheeded. Reluctance on part of the government to take action only encouraged them to proceed with their unlawful activities unchecked. The task of the Ghazi brothers was to educate the students and run the affairs of the seminary only. They overstepped the assigned responsibility and meddled in the private lives of the people. All this lay beyond their jurisdiction. The whole episode confirmed the following bitter conclusions: • The administration of the Jamia went out of control for lack of supervision from the above. • Why the religious knowledge, that teaches humbleness and humility to a normal human. made Ghazi brothers terrorist-minded and why they committed the sin of sheltering male miscreants in the living compound of the female students is difficult to understand. • Under what authority they established Shariah court parallel to government’s legal system.Consequences of all such irrational actions were unfortunate. One brother got killed along with fellow terrorists and the other tried to escape his destiny clad in a burqa but without success. With that an institution that had the potential of becoming a centre of excellence of religious learning was wiped out of existence just because of the vile power that had gone to the heads of the two abnormal individuals, so called maulanas.
