Cotton Spinning Sector

The spinning sector of textile is one of the most important sectors. At present, it is comprised of 521 textile mills (50 composite units and 471 spinning units) in the country with 10.1 million spindles and 114 thousand rotors installed. The capacity utilization stagnated at 89% in spindles but declined to 60% in rotors.

The production of cotton yarn increased to 680 thousand tones in 2008- 09 as against 2725.6 thousand tones in the comparable period of last year.
