Parallelograms

[Page 23 of 30]

A parallelogram is a quadrilateral that has two pairs of parallel sides. The opposite angles are congruent. The diagonals bisect each other.

A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with:

  • Opposite sides parallel
  • Opposite angles equal

These two properties go together: if the opposite angles are equal, the opposite sides will be parallel, and vice versa.

Adjacent angles of a parallelogram are supplementary.

ADC = ∠ ABC

Since quadrilateral ABCD has opposite angles that are equal, it is a parallelogram. That means that AD is parallel to BC, AB is parallel to DC, and ∠DAB = ∠DCB.
