Causes that are not and the causes that are
Before suggesting a prescription for the malady the
nation is suffering from, it would be advisable to pinpoint the causes of the
religious terrorism. First all those causes that are commonly believed to be
relevant to terrorist acts but in fact have nothing to do with them. Those are:
American presence in Afghanistan, Iraq etc Pakistan’s support to US’s war on
terror, poverty at home, demand for provincial autonomy, prevalent individual
and social injustices, sky rocketing prices and so on. These causes are quite
genuine but they promote different kind of problems such as political
upheavals, social unrest, suicides, robberies, abduction for ransom and evils
of prostitution, smuggling, drug pedaling etc. and not terrorism.
The real causes of religious terrorism in Pakistan
originate from matters of belief, faith, prejudices. ideologies coupled with
psychological malfunctioning of the human mind. When seen from this angle first
one of the causes we are looking for, turns out to be belief in the religion of
Islam that has run amuck and gone wild. A religious class of people has
stretched its faith to the point of extremism forgetting that the religion of
Islam is a path of the middle, message of l” for humanity, forbearance,
tolerance and service to the mankind. This is the psychological Second is their misconceived belief
that being the pretenders of Faith it is their divine right to rule over the
country even though they opposed its emergence. In this context they have
developed a distorted ambition to grab power through violence and run the
matters of the state as per their personal prejudices and self-concocted
fundamental of Islam which in fact have nothing to do with Islam. They intend
to make use of Islam as an instrument to grab political power. The third and major factor is that of
Taliban who are their role model, source of inspiration, and a force to fall
back upon when in difficulty.
