The Constitution of Pakistan carries the title of “Islamic Republic” meaning thereby that the state is an Islamic democracy. The ground reality, however, is that it is neither democratic nor Islamic in character. Had it been so the society wouldn’t have cried hoarse for the last many decades for the restoration of democracy on the one hand and enforcement of Islam on the other. This was the declared objective of the Pakistan Movement which has not as yet been realized and is not likely to be achieved ever, if the present feudalistic social, economic and political system continues to reign supreme. This of course is the basic, major and fundamental cause that accounts for the rampant clash, conflict and widespread unrest in the country including the religious terrorism.
