Difference Between War and Peace

In times of war, the energy of the atom is harnessed to the making of destructive weapons. Atom bombs are made to annihilate people. But in times of peace this very energy is channelized to bring about comforts and joys for the masses. Advancement of learning and acquisition of knowledge get wheels during peace. In war-time soldiers push back scholars, planes paintings, guns butter, weapons poetry, treachery innocence, hatred affection, immorality morality. The list can be endless. In peace time education progresses, art flourishes, culture jumps to great heights and the people gain. Holy men establish the kingdom of God on the earth. In war time the only God is the god of victory. But soon names and dates of battles mingle with dust. Names of the commanders go blank in public memory.

In peace time man fights against diseases, poverty, ignorance and hatred. Man 4was once at the mercy of the elements. Today he boasts of conquering even Nature. How could it be possible? It. is all because of prevailing peace. In peace time man has won victories over many adversaries like diseases, ignorance, illiteracy, poverty and so on. Are not these victories greater than the victories of war?

With the weapons of truth and nonviolence he fought against imperialism. Lo, what a great victory did he win? Akbar got tired of the victories of war. He won victories over the hearts of the people by peaceful methods. His war-victory looks pigmy before his achievements after he left war for ever. Great and glorious victories can also be won with peaceful weapons.

Apostles of peace find lodgement in the hearts of men whereas bloody conquerors inspire disdain only. Military triumphs pale into insignificance before the victories of philosophers, scientists, teachers and preachers. War creates heroes and warriors. Peace produces prophets, poets, philosophers and saints, reformers and philanthropists. Let us echo the lines of Shakespeare to conclude our matter:

A peace is of the nature of a conquest For them both parties nobly are subdued And neither party loses.
