Silk Art Silk and Synthetic Textile Industry

At the time of independence, there was not any significant manufacturing in silk and art silk. Pakistan was an importing country of silk cloth & manufacturing. Only a few looms were working at some places and utpo 1951, our art silk production was limited due to limited raw material production and heavy prices. Now art silk and synthetic weaving’ industry had developed on cottage based power looms units comprising of 8-10 looms spreading all over the country.

To promote silk industry, Govt. of Pakistan, imposed ban on import of art silk and local industry flourished, very rapidly. In 1963-64, production became 32.4 million meters and up to 1975-76 it became 270.43 million meters and was 402.23 million meters in 1981-82. Now Pakistan has become an exporter of art silk.
