Other causes of terrorism

It must be remembered that economic backwardness is only one cause of the political terrorism. Alleviation of poverty on international scale will certainly solve many problems in overcoming it, but not all. There are other factors that also account for unrest in different parts of the world e.g. ethnic prejudices, political rivalries, state chauvinism, regional ambitions, power grabbing tendencies. These are some of the tendencies which if permitted to persists would give rise to protests by the victim. But verbal protests lead to nothing. The oppressor shies them away with Contempt. The weak is not in a position to come into direct conflict with him and therefore resorts to clandestine revengeful activities in form of bombing, sabotaging, assassinating etc. Groups can launch collective operations. Such smaller acts sometimes create war like conditions. Countries clash with each other and a local armed incident flares up to take the form of worldwide conflagration. In this regard the two danger spots are Palestine and Kashmir. In both cases UN Resolutions exist but for the last many decades have been made to lie in the cold storage. While Israel and India dilly dally avoiding the inevitable, the UN has no will to get them implemented. If this unfortunate situation does not change as per the requirement, it is likely to create opportunities for further violence.
