Critical Reading is essential to your test taking success and, indeed,
to your success in graduate school. In fact, if you had the time or inclination
to develop facility in only one skill area, it would have to be this:
the ability to read dense and difficult prose in a critical manner.
In this module we will review:
- What "critical reading" means
- The four critical reading tasks that constitute
"critical reading"
- Important categories of structural signals
— "Keywords" — that make it easier to read quickly and actively
Remember, these are skills to learn, and practice, throughout your
test preparation. As a matter of fact, we know you'll want to continue
them long beyond test day. They're that effective.
