About - Leigh Beck Infant School and Nursery

The school began its life in February 1934 as Leigh Beck Council School. It was in 1968 when Junior School was opened and our school became an Infant School. Since then many changes have occurred, education of young children has continued to develop, staff and pupils have come and gone, and new buildings have been added during the last twenty years. A new teaching block was completed in 1994 and two more new class bases were opened in December of 1996. In February 2009 we celebrated our 75th Anniversary. We marked this historic time with a number of commemorative events during the school year.

Years 1 & 2
All children offer a full time admission in the Reception year group from the September following their fourth birthday. Parents have the right to a full time place at the school from September. However, compulsory school age is not reached until the start of the term following their fifth birthday so parents can defer entry until later in the school year or until the child reaches compulsory school age in the school year. Where entry is deferred the school will hold the place for that child and not offer it to another child. This must be agreed with the Headteacher in advance. The school can admit up to 90 children in each year group and 52 (full time equivalent) in Nursery. There is no guarantee of a place, should the school be oversubscribed set of criteria are used to admit children. In the event of over-subscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority. Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) may override the above (other than Looked After Children).
