0.625 as a Percentage: Steps & How-To
In this lesson, we will go over each step in converting the decimal 0.625 to a percentage. We will do this by first setting up 0.625 as a fraction then multiplying it to get 100 in the denominator.
Steps to Solve the Problem
You just started your brand new business and are making money fast! Your friend looks through your numbers and tells you that you are making 0.625 cents for every dollar you sell. Those are high margins! You want to know what this is in a percentage so you can go brag to your family.
The word percentage means a number expressed as part of 100. This means that we want to find what number would be in the numerator, top of the fraction if 100 is in the denominator, bottom of the fraction.
In order to do this, we need to start by writing our decimal as a fraction. The easy way to do this is by putting 0.625 in the numerator and putting 1 in the denominator.
The reason we can do this is because anything divided by 1 is equal to itself. For example, 6 is equal to 6 / 1 as a fraction because 6 divided by 1 equals 6.
As stated earlier, we want the denominator to be equal to 100. In order to achieve this, we can multiply the denominator by 100. But, what we do to the denominator, we must also do to the numerator. Thus, we will multiply the fraction by 100 / 100. We can do this because 100 divided by 100 is equal to 1. We can multiply anything by 1 and it will be equal to itself!
When multiplying fractions, we must multiply the numerator of the first fraction by the numerator of the second fraction. We will do the same with the <
denominators.
Numerator:
0.625 x 100 = 62.5
Denominator:
1 x 100 = 100
This will give us:
