GMAT Scoring Info
Test-takers receive three scores after taking the GMAT: Total, IR, and AWA. Total scores are on a scale from 200 to 800 derived from the raw scores for the verbal and quantitative sections. AWA scores are averaged to produce a single score, and the IR score is based on questions you answer correctly.
According to GMAC, nearly 70% of test-takers achieve a total score that ranges between 400 and 600. In 2014, U.S. News and World Report reported scores of 715 to 732 for students at the 10 business schools with the highest GMAT scores. The average IR score is 4.34 and an AWA score of 6 is considered outstanding.
