Special Exponents

When appearing in the exponent or the base, the numbers 1 and 0 have "special" properties.

Video - Properties of Exponents

  • Any number raised to the exponent 1 equals itself.
  • 1 raised to any exponent equals 1.
  • Zero raised to any power other than 0 equals zero.
  • Any number raised to the exponent 0 equals 1.
  • The exception is 0 raised to the 0 power, which is undefined.
