UNO Limitations

The U.N.O, General Assembly adopted a resolution expressing deep concern and disappointment at the tardy progress in the dialogue between the developed and developing countries in Paris on international economic co-operation. Developed countries, however, abstained from voting on this resolution, together with the socialist block which usually abstains on such issues.

The U.N.O. has its limitations. Its decisions are sometimes disobeyed and defied. Big powers sometimes make it impossible for an issue to be introduced in the Security Council. Countries have often to vote, not according to their convictions, but in compliance with the instructions of the power bloc to which they belong. Power politics still operates in the working of the U.N.O. National and racial prejudices are another barrier to the success of the U.N. programs.
