There are about 12,000 knitting machines working in the country with approximately 70% capacity utilization. The sector is not only catering for domestic demand, but also earns badly needed foreign exchange. Exports from this sector has provided US $ 1,317,915 million in the form of value of exports for knitwear during 2008-09.
