Historical Causes

The industrial revolution in Europe (U.K) introduced power barns for textile production, while the handbook industry in the subcontinent was very slow and produced an inferior quality cloth. Hence, it cold not compete the European manufactured cloth.

  • The British collected raw material for their industries from the subcontinent and they captured the market for their products in the subcontinent and start establishing industry in this area.
  • The Muslim majority areas were kept backward; deliberately to favor the Hindus. It shows the malice and prejudice that the British were against the Muslims.
  • The few industries, which were set up in India, were allocated at the coastal cities of Calcutta (Kolkata), Chennai (Madras), and Mumbai, which were far away from Pakistan’s territories.
  • The two necessary conditions for industrialization i.e., availability of raw material add skilled labor were not available in area which were part of Pakistanis share. The Iron and steel mills were established at Jamshedpur, cotton factories were installed at Ahmadabad and Jute mills in Calcutta. Thus, all the regions of Pakistan historically remained backward and undeveloped.
