Vocational Education in Pakistan

The members of the unemployed educated youth have been increasing at an alarming rate. The fact that the present education is not making these good enough to earn their own livelihood and contribute to economic viability has made the planners and the social scientists to refashion it to meet the demands not only of today but also of tomorrow. There are many objectives of the vocationalisation of education in Pakistan. It will help in linking education with productivity only vocational education can make students employment-worthy; they can seek self- employment if the need arises. Students will also get occupational background and familiarity with tools, materials, process and technological knowledge along with related sciences. Nearly, 50% students will have to take vocational stream so less number of colleges for higher education will be needed. Vocational higher secondary education should in no case be equated with the training of the technicians. Vocational education prepares students to understand social realities so that they themselves find out their own potential. This education prepares crucial middle level of trained manpower in specific competencies without which neither production can be increased not public service be improved. Practical training and work form an important part of the education.
