The Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT) became the College of Engineering in 1967, when Carnegie Mellon University was formed.U.S. News & World Report ranks Carnegie Mellon University's College of Engineering in the top 10 engineering colleges for both graduate and undergraduate education.In just 100 years, (most prominent engineering colleges are much older), Carnegie Mellon University has grown from four small programs into the world-class university it is today. Beginning in 1905, the massive buildings of the Carnegie Technical Schools began to rise out of a barren field east of the city.
