SAT - II Subject tests are no longer available. College Board has discontinued them

SAT II Chemistry

It is true that almost all colleges in USA and almost all reputed colleges through out whole of the world require SAT Reasoning test and many of more competitive colleges like Havard, Stanford, and MIT etc require SAT subject tests as well. LUMS, for example require SAT reasoning along with three subject test for SSE admission. SAT II Chemistry is one hour test comprises of 85 questions. The time allowed for whole of the test is one hour. It is developed by ETS and administered by College Board USA. The College Board provides its course ouline. A test taker must know this outline to review and practicing the topics.

Timing

Time pace is an important factor in performing well on the SAT Chemsity test as the test taker has to complete 85 questions in only one hour..

According to the College Board, the test evaluate a test taker's ability on the following knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding of major chemistry concepts and ability to apply those concepts in solving problems
  • Ability to understand and interpret data from observation and experiments and to draw conclusions based on experiment results
  • Understanding and Knowledge of laboratory procedures and of SI metric units of measurement
  • Knowledge of simple algebra to solve numerical problems

You must prepare it if the school demand the score of SAT II Chemistry.
The level of the test is based on FSc first year course along with some topics from the second year course. Students of A Level can easily take it with some preparation.

SAT Chemistry Format

This test is consisted of 85 questions.

  • First 23 Questins are 'classification questions'(1 - 23).
  • The next 16 questions are 'relationship analysis questions' (101 - 116)
  • The last 46 questions are standard multiple choice questions. (24 - 69)

Classification Questions

These questions test your basic knowledge of the fundamental facts and terminology of Chemistry. These questions are straightforward—they’re simply a matter of knowing some fact.

Relationship Analysis Questions

Relationship Analysis Questions require the student to identify the truth value of two statements. If both statements are true, the student will then have to analyze the relationship between the two statements to relate if the second statement correctly explains the first statement.

Laboratory Questions

Laboratory questions describe a situation in a laboratory and often provide some data. To answer these questions, you must be able to understand and analyze the data, to conclude a result based on the data.

Scoring

The test has 85 multiple choice questions that are to be answered in one hour. All questions have five answer choices.

Scoring on the SAT II Chemistry is simple; for every correct answer, you earn one point, for every wrong answer, you lose 1/4 of a point, and for each question you leave blank, you earn zero point. Sum of these points gives your raw score. ETS converts your raw score to a scaled score from minimum of 200 to maximum of 800.

  • Negative Marking = Yes
  • Correct Answer = +1 point
  • Wrong Answer = -.25 point
  • Un-Answered = 0 point

Guessing on SAT Chemistry

SAT Chemistry is an MCQ based test and its negative marking crtiteria is 1/4 per wrong question. You can make use of guessing. If you a little bit of some thing you guess the correct answer.

At the Center

The student is not allowed to use notes, textbooks, or a calculator on this test, even though there are questions that involve math difficult to perform mentally. The only resource a student may use is a periodic table which is provided with the test booklet.

SAT II subject is a subject test, so treat it as the subjects you have learnt in your courses at college or high school. The only difference is practicing the MCQs. You must solve a lot of similar to SAT questions.
