Pre - phrasing: The Art Of Foresight

What's " pre- phrasing"? Why is it important? When should it be used?

Pre- phrasing is the technique of formulating an answer to a question before looking at the actual choices.

The basic idea is to think about what the correct answer should contain or sound like in order to focus your search among the choices. Pre- phrasing not only saves time by streamlining your search, but also makes it less likely that you will chose a trap answer choice.

Pre- phrasing is quite useful with Global questions, and sometimes Explicit Text questions if you happen to remember the detail in question (still, it pays to check your answer against the text). It's less useful with generally-worded Inference questions, which often require rereading for specific information or context.
