After the incident the Arab foreign ministers convened a meeting and discussed the pros and cons of the desecration of the holy mosque and considered ways and means to check the recurrence of such event future. The foreign minister decided to call a summit meeting of all the heads of the Muslim nations. Saudi Arabia and Morocco were entrusted with the task of making necessary arrangements this historic meeting. A seven member committee worked for this purpose. After consulting the Muslim heads of the states it decided to hold the first Islamic conference in Rabat from 22 to 25 September 1969.

Since 1969 where the first Islamic Summit was held in Rabat, the OIC has made a better program in harmonizing the interests of individual states with those of Islamic community of nations. Malaysian Prime Minister Mahatir Mohammad, playing host to the twenty seventh session of Islamic Foreign Minister conference, held recently in Kuala Lumpur was not overstating the fact where he warned the Islamic States that they would become banana republic’s unless they acquired the skills needed to survive in an age of globalization and information technology.

Soon after the OIC Foreign Ministers adopted a resolution, strongly supportive of the Kashmir cause by the Islamic governments. India turned it down, maintaining that Kashmir question was India’s internal affair. While the rejection was not unexpected, but the contempt shown for OIC by India lay in the fact that India issued its burlesque rejection, confident that this would not affect its relations with OIC member states individually, including relationships, which were important for India in the economic and political fields.

Unless the OIC members states abandon the present practice of treating major international issues in isolation and at a bilateral level, contrary to their collective stand on these, the world would continue to treat OIC resolution with indifference.

On Afghanistan the ineffectiveness of OIC was shown up by the start of Taliban offensive within days of OIC asking for the flexibilities on the part of parties involved in the conflict, negotiations to establish a broad based multi ethnic regime in Kabul and an end to arms support to the contending parties from outside the country. The conference in Malaysia called for economic support for the Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Iran. It also asked for the Islamic Development Bank to draw up plans for economic and infrastructural rehabilitation of Afghanistan once the fighting ended.

The recent conference of the Foreign Ministers of the member states of OIC was held in Doha, Qatar. In this conference a great concern is shown over the circumstances resulted due to the invasion of Afghanistan by America. The members of the conference also condemned all kinds of terrorism and asked Taliban to cooperate in eradicating terrorism. They also showed their concern over the killing of many Afghan people due to the heavy firing of missiles and dropping of bombs by war air crafts of United Stated and Great Britain. The Conference also announced the aid of one crore dollars for the habilitation of Afghan Refugees both in Iran and Pakistan.

Now here we again find OIC, a weak Muslim organization it just reacted normally as it was just the problem of one as the nations of the world. It is felt throughout the Muslim World that there should be solidarity among the Muslim countries. If a Muslim country is in some sort of problem, all the Muslim countries should get united and should try to try to solve their problems by themselves. OIC should be so strong that its resolutions and decisions should play a decisive role in international politics. But this is possible at the time when all the Muslim Nations will become united. It is an open reality that the Muslim countries have been bestowed by God with his great blessings. Some Muslim countries are wealthy. Some have the power of oil, some have manpower, some are advanced in technology and some have the bounty of natural resources Pakistan, an Islamic country has the nuclear capability. So when all these forces get united then there would be a different scenario of international relation then we will find that the real strength lies in unit. Then no usurping nation will dare to massacre Muslims deliberately as is happening in Palestine and Kashmir. It is the call of the time that Muslims realize their real strength and should have faith in the blessings of God.

Apart from reiteration of support for the rights of the Palestinians, a peaceful settlement in Chechnya and condemnation of Armenia aggression against Azerbaijan the question of Iraq raised emotions and tempers. The foreign Minister of the host country Syed Ahmed Albal, expressed his grief at the reaction the Muslim states to allow the sufferings of the Iraq men, women and children to continue by supporting the continuance of sanctions against Iraq while expressing sympathy for the suffering of Iraqi people the conference urged Iraq 15 cooperate with UN inspection nominations.
